The repo is source code and guidelines only. Nothing about how Archipelago's
own fleet is run, or how the team works, stays in it.
Untracked (kept on disk, gitignored) — 250 files:
- .planning/ (199) and loop/ — internal development process
- fleet operations tooling that targets specific nodes: deploy-to-target,
deploy-tailscale, deploy-config-defaults, setup-target-dev, setup-aiui-server,
setup-https-dev, debug-frontend, node-profile, fleet-fips-pair/unpair,
image-recipe/sync-from-live.sh
- image-recipe/INTEGRATION-GUIDE.md and docs/multinode-testing-plan.md, both of
which are live-server workflow and fleet node inventories
- the Phase 10 on-node verification and evidence records, which cite .planning/
as their evidence base
KEY-05-ENTROPY-ENFORCEMENT.md was initially moved out with the other Phase 10
docs and then put back: it is cited as normative rationale from ten places in
the codebase, including core/clippy.toml, which bans rand::thread_rng and
points at it for the reason. That makes it a guideline, not an internal record.
Node names removed from source (48 occurrences across comments, manifests and
test fixtures): archi-dev-box, archy-x250*, shorty-s, framework-pt,
zaza-optiplex, archi-thinkpad. Comments keep the engineering context and the
date, which is what carried the meaning; the machine name did not.
Three of those were live test values rather than comments and were replaced
with valid stand-ins, not prose: two mDNS hostnames and a mesh peer name.
An earlier pass substituted "a test node" into a hostname assertion, producing
an invalid hostname; caught and fixed as test-node.local.
Wipe mechanism: .local-only/manifest.txt inventories every local-only path and
.local-only/wipe.sh deletes them on one confirmation, refusing to touch
anything git still tracks. Both are themselves untracked, so the public repo
does not carry a map of internal filenames.
Verified: cargo check -p archipelago --all-features clean; archipelago-container
75/75 tests pass; appOrigin vitest 7/7; audit-secrets 5/5; every relative link
in tracked markdown resolves (0 broken).

Web5.vue's lndInfoRes and profitsRes defaulted to persist:true (via
useCachedResource's default), writing live LND wallet balances and
channel balances to sessionStorage in plaintext -- a T-02-01 violation.
Add explicit persist:false to both, matching the "never defaulted"
rule this phase established everywhere else. Also updates Home.vue's
comment, which previously documented this as a known unfixed gap.
Co-Authored-By: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com>
- System stats (homeStatus.refresh), update status and cloud storage usage
are now every-entry, TTL-gated useCachedResource entries (10s/300s/30s),
hosted in Home.vue rather than inside the homeStatus Pinia store — a
store's own defineStore(id, setup) runs in a bare effectScope where
onActivated() silently no-ops (same finding as 02-05's Mesh.vue)
- Wallet is the deliberate exception (T-02-13): a new home.wallet-status
resource wraps the existing loadWeb5Status() composite fetch and
revalidates UNCONDITIONALLY on every activation rather than TTL-gated,
keeps the prior figure rendered throughout, and persist:false (never
written to sessionStorage). hydrateWalletSnapshot()'s separate localStorage
path is untouched.
- Read Web5.vue's two existing resources (web5.networking-profits,
web5.lnd-info) and did NOT share either key: profits is an unrelated
dataset, and lnd-info's own default persist:true (Web5.vue out of this
plan's file scope) would leak balance data via its own independent
refresh cycle regardless of what Home declares, and Home's wallet fetch
is a strictly broader 7-call composite (not the same single-call dataset)
- dedup:true added to all 12 underlying rpcClient calls (Home.vue's wallet
composite + checkUpdateStatus, homeStatus.ts's 5 status calls)
- RefreshIndicator wired next to the Home header, bound to the wallet
resource's loadState
- The websocket wallet-push path and hydrateWalletSnapshot's pre-network
paint are both left exactly as 02-04 placed them

Task 1 of 02-04 — audits every side effect owned by Home.vue, web5/Web5.vue,
Chat.vue, Cloud.vue, Server.vue and Mesh.vue and places each into one of
three buckets (once-per-session, every-entry, only-while-visible) so their
instances are safe to keep alive once KEEP_ALIVE_PATHS widens in Task 2.
- Home.vue: systemStats/wallet polling, the wsClient wallet-push
subscription and its debounce timer follow activate/deactivate with an
immediate re-sync on entry; hydrateWalletSnapshot/checkUpdateStatus/cloud
usage stay once-per-session.
- Chat.vue: the window `message` listener and ContextBroker follow
activate/deactivate; aiuiConnected is never reset on deactivate since the
iframe's one-time 'ready' message won't resend on re-entry.
- Web5.vue: the six child-component data loaders (none use
useCachedResource internally) and the 30s LND poll move to
activate/deactivate; the DID lookup and intro flag stay once-per-session.
- Cloud.vue: the per-peer transport/reachability warm-cache
(loadPeerFiles/loadCounts/loadPeers) re-runs every entry — the one path
here that bypasses useCachedResource and would otherwise render stale peer
reachability (T-02-13).
- Server.vue: the previously module-scope-armed 15s VPN poll interval now
follows activate/deactivate (it used to run forever regardless of
visibility); loadDiskStatus becomes every-entry.
- Mesh.vue: the entire live-communications surface (window/document
listeners, the 5s/15s poll intervals, the ws peer-push subscription, and
the six-way federation/self/contacts refresh) follows activate/deactivate;
a share-to-mesh handoff via direct navigation is now correctly picked up
on every activation, not just the first mount.
- useCachedResource.ts: onActivated's staleness check now skips an
`immediate: false` resource that has never been explicitly fetched, so a
tab-gated lazy resource (Cloud.vue's Paid Files / My Files walk) isn't
eagerly force-loaded the moment its owning view is kept alive.
- Every arm/disarm pair is idempotent and duplicated into both onMounted and
onActivated, since onActivated is a no-op outside a KeepAlive boundary
(caught by CloudPeersRefresh.test.ts, which mounts Cloud.vue bare) —
fresh-mount guard flags avoid double-firing the heavier loaders
(Home/Mesh/Web5/Server) on a KeepAlive-wrapped first mount.
- New neode-ui/src/views/dashboard/__tests__/keepAliveLifecycle.test.ts
covers the six lifecycle behaviors plus a real-view assertion
(Server.vue's VPN poll, mounted inside a real KeepAlive).

Framework-pt report: a paid invoice stalled the UI with no success
shown, and lightning/total balances disappeared until it settled.
Three compounding causes, three fixes:
- Backend payinvoice's synchronous wait drops 120s → 8s. Fast payments
(the majority) still settle in one round trip; slow multi-hop routes
return pending + payment_hash quickly and the caller's 3s poll takes
over — instead of the modal freezing for up to two minutes.
- payLightningInvoice gains an onPending hook: SendBitcoinModal and the
scan modal now flip to a visible "Settling…" success pane the moment
the payment goes pending (safe to close), and the ongoing poll
upgrades it to Paid — or replaces it with LND's real failure.
- One slow lnd.getinfo poll (5s budget) flipped the Home wallet card to
"disconnected", hiding balances the user already knew. Three
consecutive failures are now required (~30s) before the card gives up;
last-known balances keep rendering throughout.
rpc-client tests 75/75.

Why apps feel instant over the mesh and data panels didn't: an app
launch is ONE streamed HTTP fetch on a warm session; the panels were
built from SERIALIZED RPC round-trips, each costing a full mesh RTT.
- Wallet card (Home): the 7 balance/history RPCs fired one-by-one
(seconds by construction) — now all 7 in parallel, and the card paints
a persisted last-known snapshot (balances + recent transactions)
BEFORE any network round-trip. Refresh replaces it silently.
- Web5 connected nodes: listPeers + federationListNodes fetched
together instead of stacked.
- Peer files: the cosmetic peer-name lookup no longer blocks the
catalog/owned fetches it never depended on.
Rules going forward: never serialize independent RPCs; never show a
spinner where last-known data exists.

Backend streams LND /v1/transactions/subscribe (fires on mempool arrival
and each confirmation) and nudges the /ws/db revision per event; the Home
wallet card subscribes and refetches (debounced 800ms). An incoming
broadcast now appears while the 30s poll is still asleep. Reconnects
forever with capped backoff when LND is down/locked/absent.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The Home wallet card counted every incoming tx with num_confirmations < 3
in the pulsing 'Incoming N' badge. Lightning history hardcodes 1 conf and
ecash/fedimint/ark receives are normalized to 1 conf, so instant payments
qualified permanently — old receives showed as 'incoming' forever (seen
on .228 with week-old lightning orders).
- On-chain keeps confirmation-based logic (< 3 confs, expires naturally).
- Instant rails (lightning/cashu/fedimint/ark) now surface in the incoming
panel only for 5 minutes after receipt — the nice arrival moment without
the perpetual pending state.
- Panel rows: 'Unconfirmed / N conf' badge and mempool link are now
on-chain-only; instant rows get a rail badge instead.
- Home now polls wallet balances+transactions every 30s (like Web5.vue),
so pending on-chain receives actually flip to confirmed and the badge
appears/expires without a manual wallet action.

On single-column (mobile) the dashboard cards now order My Apps, Wallet,
Cloud, Network; desktop keeps its existing two-column layout via
lg:order-none resets.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
New WalletScanModal scans QR codes with the device camera (BarcodeDetector
with jsQR fallback) including animated/multi-frame QRs via qrloop, then
routes what it saw: BOLT11 invoices -> lightning pay (amount locked from
the invoice when present), bitcoin:/BIP21 URIs -> on-chain send, Cashu
tokens -> redeem, Fedimint invites -> join. Entry points: camera button on
the wallet card (far right), and a Scan button centered between the
Close/Send and Close/Receive buttons of both modals.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- "Back to Goals" now returns to Home's Setup tab (?tab=setup) instead of
landing on the dashboard tab.
- The channels screen remembers when a setup wizard sent you there
(?from=goal) — its back button reads "Back to Setup" and returns to the
wizard; it also now uses the shared BackButton pill instead of a bare
link.
- "Open & Configure" steps launch the actual app via the app launcher —
iframe apps overlay on top of the wizard, tab-only apps (BTCPay,
Nextcloud) open a tab, mobile uses the in-app browser — instead of
routing to the app-details page.

Ark tab in Wallet Settings (status, balances, receive address,
board/offboard, server config via wallet.ark-*), teal Ark badge in the
transactions modal, Ark row on the home wallet card (hidden until barkd
reports a balance), official bark icon, and wallet.ark-* mocks so the
public demo renders the tab.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Launching an app (or opening a tx in mempool from Home/wallet/channels) used
to router.push the app-session page in overlay/fullscreen modes, swapping the
page underneath — confusing and lossy. All display modes are now store-driven:
panel renders beside the page, overlay/fullscreen render above it (teleported
to body), and the route never changes. Deep-link paths (/tx/<hash>) ride along
via the launcher's panelPath instead of a route query; closing always returns
exactly where the user was. The app-session route stays for direct links.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- new lnd.lightning-history RPC: settled invoices (incoming) + succeeded
payments (outgoing) normalized to the wallet-transaction shape; on-chain
history stays in lnd.gettransactions
- Home merges on-chain + lightning + ecash history into one sorted list;
every entry now carries kind (onchain/lightning/cashu/fedimint)
- modal renders a rail badge for non-onchain rows instead of a bogus
confirmation count, and only on-chain rows link into mempool
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Found live: after receiving a TollGate Cashu payment into the wallet,
the balance correctly showed the new sats (wallet.ecash-balance), but
the Transactions modal said "no transactions yet." Home.vue's
loadWeb5Status() only ever fetched lnd.gettransactions — ecash and
Fedimint activity (wallet.ecash-history, which already unifies both)
was never wired into walletTransactions at all, so no Cashu or
Fedimint receive could ever show up there regardless of how long you
waited.
Maps EcashTransaction into the existing (LND-shaped) WalletTransaction
interface rather than widening that type, and merges+sorts both lists
by timestamp.
Add a TollGate row (Enabled/Disabled/Not installed) to the Home
dashboard's Network tile, polling the existing openwrt.get-status RPC
on the same cadence as the other network rows. Only rendered once an
OpenWrt router is actually configured, so nodes without one aren't
cluttered with an always-"Not configured" row.
Also fixes the underlying reason this could never have worked: nothing
in the OpenWrt Gateway flow ever persisted the router's host/credentials
server-side — the "connect" form only kept them in local component
state, so any no-args openwrt.get-status call (this new tile, and even
the Gateway page's own reload) always failed with "No router
configured" despite a fully working, provisioned router. Now
handle_openwrt_get_status saves the connection to router_config.json
whenever a host is explicitly passed in and the connection succeeds.
Buyer-side paid downloads now persist: purchases are cached on disk
(content_owned.rs) keyed by (seller onion, content_id), the gallery shows
an "Owned" badge unblurred, and items view/play in-app from the local
cache with no re-payment or reliance on a browser download (which
silently failed on the mobile companion). New RPCs content.owned-list /
content.owned-get. Validated e2e .116<-.198 (paid 100 sats via Fedimint,
166KB jpeg returns, survives restart).
fedimint-clientd manifest: restore the standard container capability set
(CHOWN/DAC_OVERRIDE/FOWNER/SETUID/SETGID) so fmcd's startup chown of an
existing-federation /data succeeds instead of dying EPERM (#7). Confirmed
the orchestrator applies these to the running container.
FIPS perf: tighten the supervisor warm-path keepalive 45s -> 25s so peer
paths stay inside the ~30-60s NAT cold window. Dials now reliably land on
FIPS instead of re-punching and falling back to Tor. Measured to the same
peer: cloud browse 18-22s -> 0.4s; full Fedimint paid download 29s -> 11s
(residual is the seller-side guardian reissue round-trip).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
- docker/fedimint-ui/nginx.conf: the local /assets/ handler 404'd the real
fedimint guardian UI's own bundled CSS (bootstrap.min.css, style.css) →
unstyled app. B13 fixed our local icon; this adds a @guardian_assets proxy
fallback to :8177 so the guardian's own /assets/* resolve. Verified live on
.116: /app/fedimint/assets/bootstrap.min.css 404→200 text/css. (needs
archy-fedimint-ui image rebuild to persist on nodes.)
- Home.vue: Quick Start Goals card regained lg:col-span-2 so it fills its row
on desktop instead of sitting at half width.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
The Home > System bitcoin tile is gated on bitcoinAvailable===true, so any
transient bitcoin.getinfo failure (RPC busy during heavy IBD, route-change
scan) could blank it even though the node is fine. Add a bitcoinStale flag:
- getinfo fails while the container is Running, or package data is momentarily
absent → retain the last-known value and mark it stale (tile stays, shows
"Updating…" instead of a frozen figure presented as live).
- container authoritatively Stopped/Exited → flip to not-available as before
(no stale-as-live).
- first-ever poll times out but container Running → show the tile as updating
rather than staying hidden on a syncing node.
Harness: src/stores/__tests__/homeStatus.test.ts (6 cases) — red before, green
after. type-check clean.

B15: Home system stats (incl. bitcoin sync %) polled every 30s — too slow;
now 10s so sync progress tracks the actual block height more closely.
B7: the ElectrumX sync overlay was gated only on status!=='synced', so if
the status never flips to 'synced' (ElectrumX stale/disconnected) the loader
stuck on top forever. Now the overlay hides and the app iframe loads when
the sync status is stale (fail-open), while still showing during active
indexing. type-check EXIT 0.

THE apply fix
archipelago.service uses ProtectSystem=strict, so /opt and /usr are
read-only inside the service's mount namespace. sudo inherits that
namespace — every sudo mkdir/mv/chown from apply_update was hitting
EROFS even as root. Every prior "Failed to apply update" was a
symptom of this. New `host_sudo()` helper wraps every filesystem
call in `sudo systemd-run --wait --collect --pipe -- <cmd>`, which
spawns a transient unit with systemd's default (no ProtectSystem)
protections — the command runs in the host namespace and can touch
/opt/archipelago + /usr/local/bin normally.
FIPS cascade (#2)
Home.vue and Server.vue both carry a FIPS row that previously only
looked at {installed, service_active, key_present}. Now they also
read anchor_connected + authenticated_peer_count and mirror the
full FIPS card: green "Active · N peers" when healthy, orange "No
anchor" when the DHT bootstrap has failed.
Profile paste URL fallback (#4)
Web5Identities.vue list + editor previously had `@error="display:none"`
on the <img>, which hid the tag without re-rendering the fallback —
a broken pasted URL showed up blank. Replaced with reactive
pictureLoadFailed / listPictureFailed flags plus a watcher that
resets on URL change. Broken URL now falls back to the initial (or
identicon for seed-derived identities).
Small-upload data URL (#3)
Uploaded profile pictures ≤ 64 KB are now inlined as
`data:image/png;base64,...` into profile.picture on the client
before calling update-profile. That kind-0 event is fetchable by
any Nostr client — no Tor needed. Larger uploads fall back to the
onion-rooted public_url with a hint telling the user to paste a
public https:// URL for broader visibility.
Deferred: #1 FIPS Reconnect "actually fixes" — the current Reconnect
calls fips.restart which clears the daemon state, but when the
anchor is truly unreachable (UDP 8668 blocked by network/ISP), no
amount of restart can help. A richer diagnostic is out of scope for
this bundle.

Nodes without a seed-derived FIPS key (legacy deploys, fresh pre-onboarding
installs) were reporting "Awaiting seed" in the dashboard even when the
upstream fips.service was running — status.npub was None unless
/data/identity/fips_key.pub existed.
- fips/service.rs: new read_upstream_npub() reads /etc/fips/fips.pub
(bech32 text or raw 32 bytes) from the debian package.
- fips/mod.rs: FipsStatus::current() prefers the seed-derived npub,
falls back to the upstream key. service_active is now TRUE if either
archipelago-fips.service OR upstream fips.service is active; adds
upstream_service_state to the status payload.
- fips/update.rs: resolve the upstream default branch from the GitHub
repo API (jmcorgan/fips is on `master`, not `main`) instead of
hardcoding — future repo rename just works.
- network/router.rs + api/rpc/router.rs: diagnostics gain wifi_ssid from
`nmcli -t device` so the Network card can show the connected SSID.
- UI: Home.vue adds a FIPS row to the Local Network card; Server.vue
mounts the new FipsNetworkCard and shows SSID + FIPS Mesh rows;
HomeNetworkCard.vue removed (superseded by the inline rows).
