The app store offered "update to 2.3.9" on a node already running 2.4.2 — the
release that fixes an actively exploited 2FA bypass. Taking it would have
rolled the node back onto the vulnerable version.
Root cause: available_update_for_images compared tags for inequality only.
Same repo + different tag meant "update available", with no ordering. Every
version claim upstream of it can go stale — the signed catalog, a legacy
catalog entry, the image-versions.sh baseline pin — and any one of them
lagging turned into a backwards Update button.
Guard added: when both tags parse as dotted-numeric versions, a lower pinned
version is never offered. Tags that cannot be ordered (RELEASE.2024-11-07…,
14-vectorchord0.4.3) keep the previous behaviour rather than silently losing
updates. This makes stale data fail safe, which matters more than any single
pin being correct.
Four sources still named 2.3.9, three of them able to act on it:
- releases/app-catalog.json — a LEGACY `btcpay` entry, distinct from
`btcpay-server`, carrying a concrete 2.3.9 image. catalog_primary_image
treats that as authoritative, so this is what drove the button. Fixed, but
held back from this commit: it needs re-signing.
- scripts/image-versions.sh — the baseline pin used when the catalog does not
cover an app.
- stacks.rs — the legacy BTCPay installer, twice. The fallback install path
would have deployed 2.3.9 outright.
- neode-ui curatedApps/marketplaceData and public/catalog.json — the store's
displayed version, hardcoded rather than read from the catalog, which is why
it still showed 2.3.9 after the update landed.
Audited every other installer for the same shape. The remaining literals are
the immich stack, which currently agrees with its manifests; hits in
set_config.rs and app_catalog.rs are test fixtures. To keep it that way,
scripts/check-installer-image-pins.py asserts that any installer literal
naming the same repository as an app manifest carries the same tag, and runs
blocking in CI. Verified it catches a simulated revert to 2.3.9.
Tests: 13/13 in image_versions including the exact BTCPay case, a genuine
upgrade still offered, equal versions silent, prerelease suffixes ordered on
their numbers, and opaque tags unchanged.

Replaces the registry host across 86 files: 309 references, covering all 40
app manifests, the orchestrator and container crates, the release and catalog
scripts, both demo-images workflows, the ISO builder, demo-deploy, and the
frontend marketplace data.
Verified the domain actually serves the registry before rewriting anything,
rather than assuming the web host implies the registry:
- TLS verifies clean, HTTP/2 on the web root
- an anonymous token grants a manifest fetch (HTTP 200) with no credentials
- skopeo inspect --no-creds resolves an image and lists its tags
That last check is the one that matters: an outside developer with no account
can now pull, which was the functional blocker for publishing at all.
Plain-HTTP references become HTTPS in the same pass, so OTA downloads stop
crossing the network in the clear.
Deliberately NOT rewritten:
- The public FIPS anchor on port 8444. It is a functional network endpoint
every node dials to bootstrap the mesh — closer to Bitcoin Core's hardcoded
seeds than to leaked infrastructure. The domain does resolve to the same
host, so it could become a hostname, but that adds a DNS dependency to the
path used precisely when things are broken. Worth a deliberate decision,
not a side effect of this change.
- The companion APK on port 2100. The domain returns 404 for that path, so
rewriting it would swap a working URL for a broken one. The Releases page
does serve (200), which is where the plan already wants those binaries.
- releases/app-catalog.json, releases/manifest.json and release-manifest.json.
These carry `signature` and `signed_by`; editing their contents invalidates
the signature and the fleet refuses artifacts that fail verification. They
were rewritten in a first pass and reverted — they must be regenerated and
re-signed through the signing ceremony instead, which needs the mnemonic.
So the catalog still advertises the old host until that ceremony runs. Nodes
resolve images through the signed catalog, not the on-disk manifests, so this
commit alone does not change what a node pulls.
Verified: archipelago-container 75/75; every manifest still parses with a
top-level app block; no signed artifact modified.

Portainer's image reaches the public catalog (the release gate caught the
manifest and catalog disagreeing), and fips-ui 8336 joins the mesh relay's
port list now that it declares a port — it is auth: gated, so the relay
withholds it rather than bridging it.

apps/botfights/manifest.yml went to 1.2.11 in aea17248, but the two unsigned
catalogs (app-catalog/catalog.json and its neode-ui/public copy) still
advertised 1.2.9, failing the release gate's catalog-drift check and blocking
the ISO build. releases/app-catalog.json was already correct and signed.
Regenerated via scripts/generate-app-catalog.py (syncs from manifests, no key
needed). app_ports.rs was rewritten by the same generator; verified the port
set is byte-identical in content (35 ports, none added or removed) and
re-normalised with cargo fmt.

primary entry-fee UX in WalletConnect.vue (was built server-side already
but never called from any UI), Lightning/NWC demoted to secondary, and a
fix so anonymous poll-mode bots (not just nostr-authenticated humans) can
use ranked/staked fights — join-ranked previously required a pubkey
unconditionally, silently locking out the entire AI-agent audience.

Bumps to botfights:1.2.8, which carries: the CSP img-src fix (nostr profile
pictures come from user-supplied kind:0 metadata URLs on arbitrary domains
— img-src was locked to 'self'/data:/blob: with no https:, so every
external profile picture rendered as a broken image), and discoverability
fixes for the new AI-answer feature (poll mode is now the default
connection mode, matching BOTFIGHTS.md's own documented default, and the
AI-answer section is expanded by default instead of collapsed behind an
extra click).
Canonical arena on VPS2 already rolled to 1.2.8 directly (docker compose
pull/up) ahead of this catalog publish, since it's a separate deployment

Bumps to botfights:1.2.7, which carries the botfight repo's new
"let BotFights answer for me" feature (ca5b634) — an operator can paste an
Anthropic or OpenAI API key so this node's BotFights server answers fight
challenges automatically for a poll-mode bot, no external script needed.
Storage/security follows the same pattern this node already uses for its
own AIUI Anthropic key (system.settings.set "claude_api_key" in
core/archipelago/src/api/rpc/system/handlers.rs): 0600 file, never echoed
back. Also carries the nostr-provider.js 404 fix, DocsPage/round-jump
fixes, and the HomePage "Latest Bouts" short-viewport visibility fix from
the prior 1.2.4-1.2.6 iterations that were built and tested locally but
not yet pushed through the signed-catalog path.
No archy-side manifest changes beyond the version/image bump — 1.2.2's
ARCHY_EMBEDDED/ARENA_UPSTREAM_URL/generated JWT_SECRET are unchanged;
the new AI-bot feature's key storage lives entirely inside the botfights
app's own data volume, no new archy secret/env wiring needed.

1.2.x's auth-hardening work added Hono secureHeaders() with a default
X-Frame-Options: SAMEORIGIN, which unconditionally blocked the Archipelago
node dashboard's iframe (different origin by port) — a real regression
versus 1.1.0, which never sent this header. Fixed upstream in the botfight
repo (commit 8eb27ed): X-Frame-Options is now conditional on ARCHY_EMBEDDED,
disabled only for the first-party node-embedded instance.
apps/botfights/manifest.yml: image/version -> 1.2.2, adds
ARCHY_EMBEDDED=1 to environment, drops the interim
metadata.launch.open_in_new_tab workaround (no longer needed — the app can
now be framed). app-catalog/catalog.json, scripts/image-versions.sh,
neode-ui/public/catalog.json bumped in lockstep via
scripts/generate-app-catalog.py. core/archipelago/src/fips/app_ports.rs
regenerated (formatting only, same port set).

apps/botfights/manifest.yml: image tag 1.1.0 -> 1.2.1, adds container.generated_secrets
(botfights-jwt-secret, kind hex32) + secret_env (JWT_SECRET) so a fresh install no longer
crash-loops on the 1.2.x image's jwt.ts import-time throw when JWT_SECRET is unset under
NODE_ENV=production (D-04/BOT-04). Adds ARENA_UPSTREAM_URL=https://botfights.archipelago-foundation.org
to turn on shared public arena federation by default (BOT-03/D-03), with an in-manifest comment
documenting the per-node opt-out (remove the line to run standalone).
app-catalog/catalog.json + scripts/image-versions.sh bumped in lockstep to keep the legacy
catalog and the image-version drift checker consistent with the manifest.
releases/app-catalog.json intentionally NOT committed in this change — it has been
regenerated locally (scripts/generate-app-catalog.sh) with the new manifest embedded, but is

The launcher must be a secure context for Web Bluetooth, but the UI opens local
apps as http://host:port (resolveAppUrl), so an https-only launcher (v1.1.0)
would break the Open button with a TLS mismatch. Serve http on 10380 (the Open
target) that 301-redirects to the https listener on 10381, so the new tab lands
on https where navigator.bluetooth is available. Bump pine 1.1.0 -> 1.1.1;
re-sign the catalog (only the pine entry changes).

Replace the launcher's text instructions with the real Improv-over-BLE
Web-Bluetooth provisioner (a "Connect Pine to WiFi" button, SSID/password
fields, live log) ported from the pine repo. Web Bluetooth needs a secure
context, so the launcher now serves HTTPS (self-signed): :80 (published 10380,
the Open target) 301-redirects to :10381, and open_in_new_tab keeps BLE out of
an iframe. Bump pine 1.0.0 -> 1.1.0.
Regenerate + re-sign releases/app-catalog.json (only the pine entry changes vs
v1.7.109) so nodes reconcile the button page live. Signed by the release-root

Kiosk (backgrounds + FIPS mismatch, one root cause each):
- kiosk service now also waits for the web-ui asset swap (probes a large
bg asset, bounded 60s) — it launched mid-rsync and CSS background 404s
are never refetched, hence blank backgrounds on first boot
- FipsNetworkCard polls every 15s instead of fetching once on mount
- PWA updates auto-apply on the kiosk (localStorage kiosk flag) — an
unattended kiosk could never click 'Update Now' and ran stale bundles
LND App Store:
- catalog icon pointed at lnd.svg which doesn't exist (lnd.png does);
store card also retries the sibling extension before the placeholder
- image pulls retry once after fast transient failures (<30s) — fresh
first-boot networks reset connections; slow failures aren't retried
so the UI never waits longer than before
Mesh detection:
- mesh.status now always reports device_present + detected_devices
(previously only when the service wasn't running, so the UI couldn't
tell 'no radio' from 'radio present, session connecting')
- Mesh page shows 'Mesh device detected' badge + 'Device detected —
connecting' status for present-but-not-connected radios
- the 99-mesh-radio.rules udev rule was never staged into the ISO tree
(installer searched for it and found nothing) — ship it at the media
root and install it from install-to-disk.sh too

The tx1138 Gitea was retired as a release server 2026-06-13 and its registry
frontend is fully dead (500 on every /v2 manifest read, observed 2026-07-10).
Nothing may reference it anymore:
- registry.rs: no longer a default registry, no longer force-enabled on
load; saved configs are stripped of it on load (same one-time migration
treatment as the decommissioned Hetzner mirror), with a regression test.
- image_policy.rs: removed from TRUSTED_REGISTRIES — refs through the dead
host are now refused at the pull site (rejection test added).
- api/handler: dropped the legacy catalog-proxy fallback URL.
- .gitmodules: indeedhub submodule repointed to the OVH Gitea.
- scripts, image-recipe, app-catalog data, neode-ui strings, docs, and all
test fixtures repointed to 146.59.87.168:3000 (or neutral example hosts).
- image-versions.sh: ARCHY_REGISTRY_FALLBACK emptied (guarded consumers
skip it); reconcile-containers.sh candidate guard hardened.
The only remaining occurrences of the host string are the strip/reject
enforcement paths and their regression tests — the code that guarantees it
is never used again.

On NAT'd nodes that can reach the iroh federation neither directly nor
via iroh's public relays, fmcd's embedded iroh networking enters a
relay/hole-punch reconnect hot-loop that pegs its entire CPU allotment
indefinitely (observed ~1 core sustained for 4 days on a Tailscale node,
while LAN nodes that reach the guardian directly stay <3%). fmcd 0.8.0
exposes no iroh/relay knobs, so:
- fmcd-run now samples fmcd's own CPU and restarts it when it stays near
its allotment for ~15 min (a restart demonstrably clears the stuck iroh
state; real work is bursty and never flat-pegs a core for minutes).
- Lower cpu_limit 1 -> 0.25 core so a stuck instance can't starve the
node (steady-state is <3% of a core; joins are brief).
Ships as fmcd:0.8.1 (launcher-only rebuild, same fmcd binary). Bumped the
image pin + cpu_limit in the manifest, image-versions.sh, the embedded
catalog manifest (releases/app-catalog.json), and the UI catalogs.

Fresh Meshtastic radios ship region-UNSET (RF-silent) and on mismatched
channels, so nodes only ever saw themselves. Bring them to MeshCore parity
using the official Meshtastic admin API:
- Auto-provision LoRa region (set_config, AdminMessage field 34) from a new
mesh-config `lora_region` (e.g. EU_868) when the radio's region differs.
- Auto-provision a shared primary channel (set_channel, field 33) with a
PSK derived deterministically from channel_name, so every node converges on
one mesh — the parity equivalent of MeshCore's named "archipelago" channel.
- Read current region/channel from want_config; only write when different
(no reboot loop); cap attempts so a radio that won't persist can't loop.
- Active NodeInfo advert scaffolding + aggressive serial drain.
Verified on .116+.228: region+channel persist, discovery works (both see each
other as named reachable contacts), bidirectional RF + sending confirmed.
Receiving in the running driver is still under diagnosis (instrumentation added).
Also removes the unwanted `meshtastic` daemon app from the registry (it was
never meant to be a container — native driver provides system-level support):
deletes apps/meshtastic + catalog entries (app-catalog, neode-ui, releases) +
test refs. Meshtastic stays native, like MeshCore.

The frontend nginx used a literal proxy_pass host with no resolver, so it
pinned mempool-api's IP at worker startup. When the backend restarts (gate,
OTA, crash, reboot re-IPAM) podman reassigns its IP and nginx keeps proxying
to the dead one -> /api hangs, websocket 502s, UI shows 'offline' until a
manual nginx reload. Same stale-upstream-IP class as the netbird 502.
Fix: mempool-frontend:v3.0.1 rewrites the generated nginx-mempool.conf to
re-resolve the backend per-request via 'resolver' + a variable proxy_pass.
Resolver address is read from /etc/resolv.conf (podman aardvark-dns answers
on the network gateway, not Docker's 127.0.0.11). Per-location path mapping
preserved (ws -> '/', /api/v1 identity via no-URI, /api/ -> /api/v1/ rewrite).
Proven on .228: backend IP change now auto-recovers with no reload; the
literal-host control still 502s. Migrated the manifest off the retired
tx1138 registry to vps2.
Also: mempool.bats #74 waited only 180s post-restart (the slow path) and
called an undefined 'fail' helper (status 127). Bumped to 300s to match the
passing parity probes and emit a real failure instead.

back .png→.svg, so an .svg miss stays broken). Point it at the existing nostr
icon. fedimint icon already uses fedimint.png (exists); the stale fedimint.jpg

Resilience-validated release. Three full sweeps of the new resilience
harness against .228 confirm no shipstoppers.
Big user-visible:
- Bitcoin RPC auth durably correct via host-rendered nginx.conf bind-mount,
replaces fragile post-start exec that failed under restricted-cap rootless
podman ("crun: write cgroup.procs: Permission denied")
- Multi-container stack installs (indeedhub, immich, btcpay, mempool) now
emit phase events at every boundary so the progress bar advances
- Apps no longer vanish from the dashboard mid-install (absent-scanner skips
packages in transitional states)
- Indeedhub fresh installs work end-to-end (was 8500+ restart loop): five
missing env vars (DATABASE_PORT, QUEUE_HOST, QUEUE_PORT,
S3_PRIVATE_BUCKET_NAME, AES_MASTER_SECRET) added to install code
- Tailscale install fixed: --entrypoint string was being passed as a single
shell-line arg; switched to custom_args array
- Catalog cleaned of broken entries (dwn, endurain, ollama removed; nextcloud
restored on docker.io)
- Bitcoin Core update path uses correct image (was looking for nonexistent
lfg2025/bitcoin:28.4)
- ISO installs now allocate swap on the encrypted data partition
Infra:
- New resilience harness (scripts/resilience/) — black-box state-machine
tester, every app × every transition. Run before each release.
Sweep #3 final: PASS 107 / FAIL 12 / SKIP 14. The 12 fails are 1 cosmetic
(homeassistant trusted_hosts), 8 harness/timing false-positives, and 3
non-shipstopper tracked items. Down from 23 in baseline sweep #1.

The trusted-registry allowlist in api/rpc/package/config.rs splits the
image on '/' and matches the first segment against a fixed set (docker.io,
ghcr.io, git.tx1138.com, 23.182.128.160:3000, ghcr.io, localhost). A bare
'bitcoin/bitcoin:28.4' splits to registry="bitcoin" which isn't on the
list, so the install RPC was returning 'Invalid Docker image format'.
Live catalogs on .160 and gitea-local already hotfixed directly; these
static copies keep ISO builds and the final hardcoded fallback in sync.

- core/archipelago/src/api/handler/mod.rs: handle_app_catalog_proxy
is now instance-scoped (&self) and derives its upstream list from
load_registries — each active container registry contributes one
`<scheme>://<reg.url>/app-catalog/raw/branch/main/catalog.json` URL
in priority order (scheme follows tls_verify). When the operator
switches mirrors in Settings, the App Store now follows. Falls back
to the legacy hardcoded .160/tx1138 pair only when registry config
can't be loaded, so the App Store still renders on nodes that
haven't persisted one yet.
